This page has yet to be updated for 2007 Positions Open The Executive Council needs to fill the following positions for the General Assembly. Anyone interested in serving in one of these positions should send email to the officer who's responsible, as indicated. Appointed by the Governor Attorney General Nic Perry is coordinating the revival of the committee system. He is the contact for people who want to serve as committee officers. Final appointment decisions rests with Gov. Clarke. Send email to the Attorney General The Governor will appoint a Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary for each standing committee. Appointed by the Secretary of State Send email to the Secretary of State Assistant Secretaries of State The Assistant Secretaries of State assist the Secretary with preparation of legislation and with managing the flow of legislation between committees, the House, the Senate and the Governor. Appointed by the Speaker of the Senate Send email to the Speaker of the Senate Chief Clerk The Chief Clerk is the most important staff position for the Speaker. The clerk stands below the speaker on the dais, reads the captions of bills as they arise on the calendar, announces the vote totals and otherwise assists the speaker in managing the Senate. Assistant Chief Clerk The Assistant Clerk helps the Chief Clerk and substitutes for the Chief Clerk. Sergeant at Arms The Sergeant at Arms controls the flow of people in and out of the Senate chamber. The Sergeant at Arms also announces special guests when they arrive at the House.
