Not yet updated for 2008 Free Pre-TISL Regional Workshops Three regional workshops in October will give delegates to the 38th General Assembly a chance to learn about bill writing and parliamentary procedure.
Any delegate or prospective delegate to the 38th General Assembly may attend the workshops. There is no charge. "Delegates who attend a workshop will have an advantage at the General Assembly," says Gov. Ethan Netherly. "Their greater knowledge of parliamentary procedure and the Rules of Order will help them get off to a faster start," the governor adds. A session on bill writing will cover the essential components of legislation and how to put them together. It will also examine how to conduct bill research and possible sources for ideas.
Another session will cover the basics of parliamentary procedure. Each workshop will culminate with a mock legislative session for students to debate and vote on bills. The workshops are aimed at students who have never been to TISL. For returning delegates, this will be an opportunity to refresh their knowledge and sharpen their skills. "A large majority of the delegates at this year's General Assembly will be new, and with this information they'll be ready to debate and make motions in committees and on the floor on Thursday," Governor Netherly says. |
