Senate ChamberTISL Day
At the Capitol 2008
Invites Students
To Capitol Hill

Tennessee college students will gather in the State Capitol on Wednesday, April 9, for TISL Day at the Capitol 2008.

TISL Day is an opportunity for students to see state government in action and express their opinions to state leaders.

Students will meet with top state officials, visit legislative committee sessions and attend floor sessions of the Senate and House of Representatives.

TISL Day is endorsed by the Tennessee General Assembly (HJR861), and the Legislature has expressly invited students from across the state to attend. "We join TISL in inviting students from every college in Tennessee, regardless of whether they currently belong to TISL, to attend 'TISL Day at the Capitol' so they may watch and join the democratic process by which Tennesseans deliberate and govern themselves," the Legislature declared.

Legislative Preview

Wednesday is typically one of the busiest and most interesting days at the Tennessee Legislature.

After floor sessions Monday evening and a full day of committee meetings on Tuesday, Wednesday includes some of everything.

Committees continue all morning; see the Preliminary Schedule at left.

After lunch, the House of Representatives will convene at 2 p.m. in its chamber on the second floor of the Capitol. The Senate will convene at 3 p.m.

The bills to be debated that day won't be known until a few days in advance.

The Legislature is moving into the final stages of the session, which means substantive bills should be reaching the floor after spending weeks in the committee system.
